Change

As the election draws closer, I’m finding it more difficult to keep things light. I am thrilled when I am able to extract amusing topics of no particular importance as post fodder. It’s a relief to turn away from the 800 pound gorilla (elephant?) in the room.

I really don’t want my posts to be relentlessly political. I lack the stomach for the nasty comments political commentary often elicits. But-there are days, like today, that I find myself shocked by the rage I see from McCain, from Palin, and the crowds their bitter rhetoric incites.

“Kill him” and Terrorist” should never be political rally chants in this country.

The hardcore Republicans seem incapable of anything beyond standing their ground, ground which grows more toxic by the minute. This intransigence doesn’t mean they are stronger or braver or more patriotic. It only means they are stuck.

I think their anger has taken on such a desperate tone because they see the handwriting on the wall, handwriting that consist of a simple, powerful, and for them, incredibly threatening word: Change.
