A friend of mine sent me an email the other day, with the subject line “fun thing, apparently it works, think what you want.” It sounded harmless, plus I hadn’t heard from this particular friend in a while, so I opened the email. It was of those Irish friendship blessings spouting sun on the windowpane and rainbows after the rain, blah, blah, etc. If I forwarded the email to one person, I could make a wish that would be granted in a year. If I forwarded it to three people, the wish would be granted in six months. If I sent it to 20 people, my wish would come true in three hours. However, if I deleted the email, I would have bad luck for a year.

Alarming? You bet! As a superstitious pessimist with a touch of OCD, I suspected the luck part of this might be a bunch of crap, or in this case, blarney, yet I completely believed in the bad luck I’d get if I deleted it.

But then the realist in me wondered, how much luck could I possibly expect by pissing off twenty contacts on my email list? It was a quandary.

That’s when I came up with this idea. I have no idea how many people might look at it, but even one hapless victim will be enough to forestall the bad luck curse, sorry in advance. Actually, I’m hoping that enough people will see this post that the wish strike time frame reverses, making my wish- which is that I never got the email- entirely possible.
